Tidal Pools

On Friday Amanda and I went looking for crabs and other creatures at Stonewall Beach.  I turned over a big rock.  I found one sea star and a lot of Asian shore crabs.  I found a big crab for it's kind.  I put a pencil in his claws.

To find crabs you can look in tidal pools next to big rocks.

This is a picture of a white hermit crab crawling where I was sitting.

This is a picture of an Asian shore crab with eggs on her belly.  Do you see the brown bump that looks like poop?  It is the eggs.

Can you see the crab hiding?

This is a sea star that I found under the large rock.

It is time to write, Mr. Crab.

The Asian shore crab in this picture is making bubbles to help it breath.  Crabs have gills and not lungs.

This crab in this picture is really mad.  He's trying to say: "The next time you pick me up, I am going to get you."  But he's not going to get me because I am good at picking up crabs.

I cannot wait until I go again!

Grey, it is amazing how you can find the crabs hiding. Also, the star fish is truly beautiful. I want you to show me how to find a crab. Love, Dad

Maybe we can go to Menemsha one day and find some crabs and other creatures.

Grey, I am really enjoying your scientific blog about the creatures you are studying. You are teaching me new information, too!! That makes me want to keep reading about your adventures. Thanks,

Grey, I love your post with the crab with the pencil in his claws! Could you write a poem, story or song from a menemsha crab's perspective? Mom
